Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 7/7/2025

Nick brings us the forecast this week. We are coming off high water from last weeks rain and most of our mountain streams are running strong, the spring creeks are full, and the bass rivers have just dropped to fishable levels and clarity. The 10 day calendar is showing potential for rain just about every day. We are starting out hot with temps in the 90's but we should see highs in the low 80's later this week! Rain will also help keep us a bit cooler than we have been. Watch the radar and forecast daily for updates as most of our rain will come in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While we aren't starved for water right now if we keep getting a bit of water each week our fishing quality will continue on into later summer. Mountain stream fishing has been good with most attractor dry flies, ants, beetles, and nymph droppers. When water levels surge give streamer fishing for brook trout a try. They will chase down size 8 and 10 streamers and you will be surprised by the size of some of the fish that you may catch! Tricos are the best and most predictable hatch on the spring creeks right now but Japanese beetles are starting to really cover the vegetation streamside. Ants, beetles, hoppers, and nymph droppers will be the ticket for the next 2 months. Overcast and rainy days get ready for some great streamer fishing! Bass fishing has been great this year between high/dirty water periods. We anticipate good topwater fishing as soon as clarity improves. Our annual cicadas are starting to make noise so load up on olive or black poppers! Higher water periods we are doing best with crayfish patterns in the eddies or baitfish along the flooded vegetation and along the rocky shoals. We have bass and trout trips out daily right now so keep an eye out for more regular updates on our social media channels!
