Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 8/11/2026

Brian brings us the forecast this week. The 10 day forecast is showing afternoon thunderstorms but not much in significant measurable rainfall. We are hopeful that the showers and storms will stack up some meaningful rain. Expect temps in the 80s during the day and 60's over night. Current fishing conditions have been challenging from the low and clear conditions we have regionally. Dry River and North River were up and fishable last week from isolated storms that helped refresh those drainages and water temps were in the low 60's. Rainfall this week may land around your favorite mountain stream and the brook trout will be eager to feed when water levels bump up. Ants, beetles, attractor dry flies sized 14-16 will work. Tricos will continue to hatch on the spring creeks and ants, beetles, hoppers, and crickets will be in play for the next 2 months. The Shenandoah is running low, clear, and full of star grass right now. Low levels have concentrated fish in the deeper holes and around ledges and woody structure. Expect spooky fish until water levels rise. Topwater bugs fished on long leaders and more subtle and lighter weight flies are in play to help keep from spooking fish. Until we get some significant changes in water flows expect technical conditions. If you do head out this week be sure to take advantage of the low and clear conditions to locate big fish. We are seeing giants every day we float. Locating big fish is the first key to being successful catching big fish and learning their hiding spots!
