Tenkara Trips

Learn the ancient art that is reinventing the way we fly fish!

Rod, line, fly……fly fishing is easier than you ever imagined.

Tenkara is a traditional Japanese method of fly fishing that has been proven effective for centuries in Japan’s high-mountain streams. It reduces the necessary gear to three essential elements—a rod, a line and a fly. There’s no reel, and there are no line guides on the rod. The line is attached to the end of the rod. This fixed line fishing eliminates the complexities of line management and long casts.

Tenkara has been popular for complete novice anglers and those looking to simplify their time on the water. Children can also be introduced to fly fishing at a younger age because of the simplicity of the method. Our fly shop was one of the first to embrace the Tenkara style of fly fishing. Tom Sadler, our head Tenkara instructor and guide, has been at the forefront of the Tenkara movement since its debut into the country.
