Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 8/3/2026

Brian brings us the forecast this week. The weather pattern continues to evolve this week. Originally our area was going to be impacted by rain and storms today(Monday and Tuesday) but most of the weather pushed east of the Valley. Now it looks like we have potential rain settling in Wednesday through Sunday. Much of the weather looks to be in passing showers or storms that pop up so keep a close eye on your local radars if you head out to fish later this week. Rainfall totals aren't yet available but the bulk of the rainy weather looks like it will be Wednesday into Thursday evening with most storm activity in the late afternoon and early evening timeframes. Temps are a bit milder this week with highs in the 80's with lows in the 60's. Current water levels are hovering at 'average' for August in the Valley. This means you should expect things to be low everywhere but we are fairly normal flows for the season. Mountain streams are flowing much stronger this week on the East side of the Blue Ridge where more rain fell over the weekend. Higher elevation streams like Dry River, Skidmore Fork, and North River will have some fishable pools but will fish better after another big shot of rain. The spring creeks have good water flow and our terrestrial fishing is strong. Ants, beetles, hoppers all day with tricos in the early morning hours are in play. The rainy days should provide some great streamer fishing! Bass fishing has been good and we are looking forward to another 2 months of our peak summer season. Topwater action has been solid on stable weather days and prefront days. Cold front days you need to finesse fish with smaller flies with slower presentations. Carp fishing continues to be solid with the low and clear conditions allowing for us to easily spot the feeding fish. Water temps are still a bit high for chasing musky but we look forward to fishing for them again in a few months when water temps will be dropping.
