Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 6/15/2026
Colby brings us the forecast this week. We are getting a short break from the intense heat we had last week. Sunny and warm weather will return Thursday with temps near 90 again. Right now fishing reports this morning have already been great. Trout and smallmouth fishing has been great. Water levels are getting back down to 'low' just about everywhere. The mountain streams still have some fishable water and with nights in the low 50's water temps will be safe much of the week ahead. For those looking to get some late season brook trout fishing in get out asap while we have some decent water flow and good hatches of little yellow stones! Spring creek anglers need to fish very early, late, target the overcast days. Tricos are coming off very early and there are some happy rising fish in the evenings taking whatever bugs are floating by. Beetles are emerging now and should be available in good numbers for fish in a few weeks but we have caught some big fish on them already. Jig streamers and crayfish flies bounced on the bottom along the weed lines will get the picky fish to eat. Our main focus will be on the warm water rivers for the foreseeable future...until we get a lot of rain. When our big bass rivers get low and clear the fish can be spooky, especially on the sunny days. Target the shade lines, approach good structure carefully and quietly and make long casts. Remember- bass will move quite a ways to grab food. If you see a big bass, don't drop a fly right on its head in these conditions. A fly placed 10 feet away, upstream and to the side of a big fish will likely not spook it but get its attention and it will track over to investigate. Give that a try until water levels return. Water temps should be safe for musky fishing early this week but keep an eye on the afternoon water temps if it starts pushing mid to upper 70's consider giving them a break! Get ready for a great summer of fun in the Shenandoah Valley!!! Come see us or shop online to gear up for the season!
