Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 6/23/2026
Brian brings us the forecast this week. We had a great shot of rain over the last couple of days and many of our streams should see a much needed bump in flows. This rain should add some great water flow to our mountain streams for the next few days so take advantage of it while we can. Yellow Sallys have been a productive pattern and will continue to be important to our mountains streams over the coming weeks. On the spring creeks we noticed some of our first hoppers along the banks this week and beetles won't be far behind. Now is the time to stock up on your terrestrials patterns as peak terrestrial fishing is quickly approaching. Dry droppers With PMX, Fat Alberts, and Morrish Hoppers have been working great and Ants have been best for picky fish. Some fish have been falling for streamers, especially on overcast days. On the larger rivers, this bump in the gauge is much needed as things have been very low and clear. Star grass is growing, water temps are rising and we are approaching some of our best smallmouth fishing of the year. Frogs and poppers have been on the menu for topwater fishing and streamer patterns have been very effective for fish that are not looking up. We are seeing lots of Dobson fly eggs so stock up on your hellgrammite patterns. Brian had some incredible insight this week on how the smallmouth rivers change throughout the season, give it a watch as it will be well worth your time!
