Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 2/9/2026

Brian brings us the forecast this week. The Valley is still coated in a pretty thick layer of 'snow-crete'. That is the new technical term for the impenetrable 6 inch thick layer of frozen material that is everywhere. We hope the sun and the 57 degree temps on Tuesday help to soften everything up and start putting some water into the ground and the streams! The good news is we have a decent thaw ahead with daytime temps in the 40's for the next week with some rain in the forecast for next Sunday. So a nice 6 days of thawing and hopefully with a wet ground we will get some rain to help boost flows. We will keep everyone updated on the status of changes this week. The bad news is we are going to continue to have some very very cold water temps with everything slowly melting. So anticipate water temps near that 32 degree range until everything is melted and gone. So there is light at the end of this cold tunnel for now but fishing options continue to be limited to fishing the spring creeks for now. The larger rivers will likely have some big chunks of ice for a while and we will let folks know when it may be safe to venture out for a bass or musky, hopefully just a few weeks. Until then we are continuing to tie some flies, organize all the new products at the shop, and prep for the Rapidan Fly Fishing show this coming Saturday in Warrenton VA from 9-3. Keep an eye out for some updates on some new tying materials this week.
