Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 8/15/2022

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We have cooler weather on the backside of this past front. Rain has replenished a few of our favorite brook trout streams like Dry River. The spring creeks are full of water and fishing well. The milder temps will make fishing any time of day enjoyable. The trico hatch on Mossy was extremely thick over the weekend and the hex hatch is in full force. Hoppers, beetles, and ants are still the best patterns to use while blind fishing and prospecting up and down the creek. Nymph droppers off the back of a big terrestrial are picking up fish as well. Any attractor nymph in a size 14,16 on 5x tippet should take fish. Try a sculpin pattern, crystal bugger, kreelex, bunny muddler, or slump buster on the overcast rainy days ahead in search of a big fish. The bass fishing is still on fire. Water levels and clarity have been excellent for months now. We are anticipating more excellent fishing through September if our conditions remain stable. The dog-day cicadas are starting to hit the water and the dragonflies and damsels are also starting to drop. The topwater fishing was amazing last week prior to the front pushing through. Fishing Sunday was good despite the cooler weather and overcast conditions. Floating minnows and diving frogs were getting a lot of action. We are just about full on float trips through the 2022 season. Call or email for the last remaining dates or go ahead and begin reserving your 2023 dates now.
