Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 3/17/2025

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We had a blustery weekend with a pretty significant front coming through. Some rain fell in the mountains west of town that bumped up water flows a bit. Trout fishing is in good shape and should only get better as water temps continue to warm up. Dry fly fishing is improving. Caddis are hatching on the mountain streams and on the spring creeks. We anticipate seeing some quill gordons coming off the East slope of the Blue Ridge any day now. You will likely continue to catch more fish subsurface for the next few weeks until the insect hatches get thicker. Spring creek anglers should enjoy some good streamer fishing as water levels continue to run pretty high and we expect some overcast days ahead. The overcast and rainy days this time of year can bring about some of the better fishing action and typically when we see some of the larger trout caught. Bass anglers are enjoying the warmer water temps and more aggressive fish. The south fork is going to fish very well this year. We are loving seeing solid numbers of 16-19 inch fish being caught every day now on all sections of the river. Musky anglers will enjoy some action for another week or so until they get in the mood to spawn and then they will be more difficult to target. Check out the entire video for tips and tricks as Brian gives you some great information on how to best pick flies when you head out. Peak spring season has officially begun and all of our local waters are fishable. Get out and enjoy some time on the water this week!!!
