Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 11/6/2023

Brian brings us the forecast this week. Not much has changed on the water levels and rain unfortunately but we do have some amazing weather to start off the week. With temps in the 70's most of this week it will be an awesome time to be outside. On the trout fishing front most anglers are focusing on Mossy Creek, South River, Buffalo Creek, Jackson Tailwater, lakes like Elkhorn, Switzer, the Douthat fee area, and some of the larger drainages in southwest VA and over in West Virginia. DWR is still out stocking so keep an eye on that page as it updates. West VA stocked a lot of big fish the last 2 weeks of October and reports have been good. There are still some hoppers around, a few tricos late morning, and the BWO hatch is strong enough most days to get fish looking up. Small jig leeches, sculpin patterns, and streamers are working well. You should consider downsizing your flies for a more subtle presentation to not spook fish in these low conditions. We have added a few new patterns to our bins for just this type of fishing so be sure to check those out! It won't be hard to go out and find big smallmouth right now while it is bright and sunny and warm and the Shenandoah is as low as it has been in about a decade. The big smallmouth will be found on the dominant rock and ledge structure in the deepest pools. You will need to make a stealthy approach as they are very spooky. Musky are feeding now and with the approaching front we expect to see some fish caught this week. Conditions may be tough but now is a great time to improve your presentation skills and also learn all the structure and hiding spots for big fish in your favorite streams! Enjoy the weather, get outside, and go learn how to be successful in these tough conditions. Check out the video for more tips!
