Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 11/13/2023
Brian brings us the forecast this week. It did rain on Friday and it did help put out a few fires burning in the forest and Shenandoah National Park but it didn't do a whole lot more. We do have another potential for a small shot of rain on Friday and then again early next week. Temps during the day will be nice in the 60's and upper 50's for the next 10 days. We will have some chilly nights with temps in the low 30's. There will be more overcast conditions Friday and then next week starting Tuesday. Those will be excellent times to get out and fish streamers with a chance of hooking a big fish. South River, Mossy Creek, Buffalo Creek, Jackson Tailwater, and some stocked lakes will be our primary focus here in VA. West VA west of Franklin is not in a drought situation. If you look at any drought monitor maps most of West VA is not experiencing any shortage of water right now and many creeks and streams are flowing around average for this time of year. We have been getting solid reports of good trout fishing on many streams in WV. Stop by the shop on your way over to gear up and tips on where to go for the best action! We have seen a few nice smallmouth and a big carp landed lately over on the Shenandoah River. The leaf litter is getting better as many of the trees have lost their leaves. Calm days should provide for some pretty 'clean and clear' conditions without having to battle too many leaves. Musky anglers will enjoy some tolerable weather for the next 2 weeks. The strategy is to be stealthy with your approach and presentation. As these fish love to curiously follow flies in low clear conditions we see many fish follow and then spook off from the boat. Overcast and rainy conditions will help give you some cover but you won't enjoy the same boat side action as you would when visibility is 1-3 feet. Give a smaller or average sized fly, longer leader, and smaller wire a try to trigger a bite.
