Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 11/20/2023

Brian brings us the forecast this week. The big talk the past few days is the forecast for Monday night into Wednesday morning and the chance for some real rainfall. Right now it is looking like rain will start late Monday and then we could have some heavy rainfall throughout the day Tuesday. Totals are looking like 1-2 inches during the day Tuesday and then another half to 3/4 of an inch Tuesday night late into early Wednesday morning. Watch out for slick spots and possible snow or ice at higher elevations! So, what could this mean? Hopefully this rain will put out any fires in the region and dampen things enough to keep fire out of the equation for some time. A couple of inches this time of year could mean some creeks and rivers might temporarily swell. We anticipate this to be short lived as many creeks are barely flowing at the moment. Some ponds, lakes, and reservoirs should see a nice boost in levels as well. Trout anglers should find some happily feeding fish once drainages clean up a bit from suspended debris in the system. Creeks like upper South River, Mossy Creek, and Buffalo Creek should be in great shape for throwing streamers if water levels bump up and clarity is reduced. We will do our best to update our social media channels over the next few days with photos, videos, and updates from our favorite fisheries in the area. A good bump in flows will help spread out trout in the mountains giving them an opportunity to feed with less competition. On our stocked waters fish should also be spreading out as well and giving anglers a chance to fish nymphs and streamers with a less stealthy approach. Hopefully we will see a change in the weather pattern to bring us more rain during the winter season to continually improve the conditions. The warm water rivers will most certainly see a significant rise again allowing anglers to fish for big winter bass and musky without the need to be as stealthy. These flows likely won't last terribly long with how dry we have been so if you are coming to the area for the holidays or have a day off or two you should do yourself a favor and get out and fish while the conditions will be better than they have been in quite some time! If you are hunkering down during this wet and cold snap check out our fly tying supplies. We are very well stocked with exciting new products coming in every week! Have a great holiday week out on the water and stop in and see us for some excellent deals and keep praying for rain!!
