Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 11/27/2023

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and took advantage of some of the boosted water flows in the region. At this point most of the creeks and rivers have a slightly increased flow from the baseline ground water flows we had prior to the last rain event. The larger warm water rivers like the Shenandoah are still slightly higher and will keep these increased flows for about another week. It is looking like a small shot of rain coming this week on Friday and then again Sunday night through Monday. Every bit will help so hopefully these systems will mature over the next few days and start showing some significant rainfall. Also new this week will be some of the coldest weather of the season with lows in the 20's Monday night and a low of 14 on Tuesday night! Highs will only be in the 20's and low 30's for the next few days. There will also be some big winds on Tuesday with gusts up to 30mph! The front pushing through on Friday will bring some warmer air with a sunny day with 53 degree high on Thursday. Temps will be in the 50's through the weekend. It might be a good time to tie a few flies and get your holiday wish list completed the next few days and prep to fish later this week and over the weekend. With everything running low and clear again it is a great time to load up on midges and blue wing olive patterns. Size 18-20 flies on the spring creeks and lakes have been working well. You can also fish a size 16 caddis and drop a zebra midge or small nymph off the back for picky fish. We do have some overcast and rainy days ahead and the streamer fishing in the rain last week was tremendous. This is a good time of year to find some giant trout so if you have your pick of days try to find those blanket overcast days or get out on Friday or Sunday when it is raining for some good action. Musky anglers might choose the same route. We are in a full moon period right now when fish will be fired up during their bite windows. It is going to be super cold and windy the next few days but the warmer overcast days later in the week will be prime for good musky action. The rivers are up a bit with a tad more color to hopefully give you that edge to trigger a bite. If you need cold weather gear we have waders, bibs, boots, gloves and layering pieces to keep you warm in any conditions this winter! Stop in and see us to gear up and take advantage of the holiday specials going on now! We also just reloaded on some tying materials! Shop online, give us a call, or stop in to see us! Happy Fishing Everyone!
