Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 7/28/2025

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We have high/dirty water on our larger warmwater rivers. Mossy is still dirty, but the mountain streams are running clear. We have a heat dome over the mid Atlantic until Thursday so expect temps in the 90's to start this week and then on the backside of the front we will have much cooler weather with highs in the 70's with lows in the 50's! Anyone fishing the spring creeks should target fishing daylight to around 11am or when the heat gets too much to bear. Winds will be calm so it will be hot! The mountain streams have good flow, shade, and much cooler water temps for comfortable wet wade fishing this week. The South Fork is running very dirty today but should be clear later this week. That is if we don't get another pile of rain on Thursday! The best news is we are expecting a shot of rain Thursday with much cooler but clear weather this coming weekend. Fishing this coming weekend should be beautiful! Big bushy dry flies, beetles, ants, and droppers are in play for the brook trout. Tricos, ants, beetles, hoppers and dropper rigs on the spring creeks- streamers on the overcast and rainy days! The bass fishing will be good once we have 2-3 feet of vis and the topwater bite will be great once visibility gets to around 4-5 feet. We are really looking forward to the cooler weather over the weekend and early next week. It is unusual to have this much water in our trout streams right now up in the mountains so take advantage of that while it lasts!
