Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 8/4/2025

Colby brings us the forecast this week. We have certainly been enjoying the cooler and dryer weather the past few days. The cooler weather looks like it will be sticking with us at least into the weekend. Highs in the 70's and lows in the 60's here in town with cooler temps up in the mountains! We have some reports from the Shenandoah River today with bass fishing reports coming in strong. The public section of Mossy had some good reports over the weekend and this morning. Early hours have been fishing strong until the sunshine hits the water. Overcast days should allow for good fishing throughout the day. Beaver Creek was recently stocked and fishing is excellent with near perfect water levels. Tricos in the mornings, ants, beetles, hoppers, crickets all day long and streamers on the rainy afternoons will be the ticket into the fall season. Brook trout are still eating just about any attractor dry fly, ants, beetles, and dropper nymphs in size 14-16. Enjoy the brook trout fishing while our water conditions are still prime! Bass anglers should see water clarity improve as the week goes on and we are excited for some topwater fishing soon! Water temps may drop into the upper 60's and low 70's giving us a rare window to fish musky this time of year. You don't have to just give up on musky fishing because it is summertime. Grab a thermometer and check water temps. We have plenty of years with cooler than average water temps and can safely fish for musky when water temps are in the low 70's. May be we will put a few in the boat here this week. As water levels drop we hope the carp fishing comes back online. Carp fishing is always a challenge but you really need to be able to see them to target them. We hope to have 6-8 feet of vis later this week. Enjoy the beautiful weather and water conditions this week!!
