Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 10/18/2021
Nick brings us this weeks fishing forecast. It is bright and sunny here in the Shenandoah Valley. Our leaves are just starting to change color. Surprisingly the mountain tops are still pretty green and we are likely still a few weeks away from peak color. The 10 day forecast is looking pretty dry and cooler weather is on the way. We are looking at lows in the 30's next week with highs in the low 60's. This will drop water temps everywhere likely into the upper 40's or low 50's. Brook trout will be cutting redds soon. Smallmouth will continue their annual migration to their winter holes. The insect activity will begin to slow around the edges of the spring creeks. Our attention will begin to turn towards a bit of musky fishing and trout fishing on the spring creeks, DH, and special regulation waters where we can avoid the spawning brown and brook trout. As water temps drop we will become much more successful fishing subsurface flies. Be sure to have your nymph and streamer boxes stacked up and have your euro leaders, tippet rings, split shot and strike indicators in order for the cold season ahead. If you need waders, boots, rain gear, and cold weather apparel, you won't find a larger selection anywhere under 1 roof in the region. Stop by to get properly outfitted.
