Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 9/5/2023
Andy brings us the forecast this week. We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. It was a hot one and the heat will continue for the next few days but we have some significant cooling that will begin on Friday and looks to last through next week. Temps will drop to the low 80's over the weekend and then into the 70's next week with lows at night in the mid to low 50's! If only we could get some rain to accompany the cooler temperatures! It is looking like Thursday into Sunday we have the possibility of some thunderstorms and showers. Next week there it is looking likely for some more wet weather. There is also more tropical activity that might head our way later next week. Until the rains come we will be continuing fishing the spring creeks early and late with tricos, ants, beetles, and hoppers. The hex will likely start to thin out over the next week or so. The bass fishing has been quite good despite the low water. You should be making long casts and being as stealthy as possible wading or drifting in a boat. The topwater fishing is great now. The hottest days focus on the shade lines. On overcast days the fish do spread out a bit and you can blind cast down stream to find some hungry fish in even the deepest pools that will be willing to take a topwater bug. We have been catching quite a few musky lately while bass fishing. They were very active last week when the cold front brought us some cooler water temps. Water temps were hovering around 68 last week for a few days and the musky were eating small bass streamers and some small conventional lures. That big full moon likely had them feeding heavily. Enjoy the next few weeks of the smallmouth season! It is a fun and visual time to fish under these conditions. It won't be long before fall and cooler weather set in!
