Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 8/26/2024
Andy brings us the forecast this week. Warm weather returns this week with temps back in the 90's and a few days in the mid to upper 90's. Expect mostly clear days with a small thread of storms mid week with increasing possibility later in the week and over the weekend. Our mountain trout fishing is suffering again from low water but temps remain cool in the low 60's. For those fishing brook trout right now ants, small beetles, and little yellow stones will be your best flies along with size 14-16 attractors. Hopefully rainfall later this week and over the weekend will perk up flows again. The spring creeks are still flowing strong and fishing well. Tricos are still thick most mornings, hex have invaded the area in the evenings, and our grasshoppers are BIG! Crickets, ants, damselfly, and beetle patterns are also still in play along with jig streamers, sculpins, and crayfish patterns. Bass fishing was a bit slower last week during the full moon and cold front but is steadily picking back up. Fly choice is broad now through September with topwater action still being great but some days the subsurface approach is producing better numbers and size fish. Soft Chews, Swim Frogs, Wiggle Minnows, Poppers are all working on the surface. Any small to medium sized baitfish, crayfish, hellgrammite fly will work subsurface. We have just over a month of our peak summer season left so take advantage of it while you can! Cooler nights and shorter days will soon allow for musky fishing. Some of the upper reaches of our larger rivers have recently had water temps in the mid 60's allowing for some good fishing. Andy stuck a few lately on some cold mornings. Check out the video for all the details and enjoy the week ahead!
