Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 7/1/2024
Brian brings us the forecast this week. Just a quick note, we will be CLOSED on July 4th. To start off the forecast the Shenandoah National Park has closed fishing until we get a bunch of rainfall and temps cool off a bit to get streams back in good shape. Our main focus has been on the excellent bass fishing the past few weeks. Water levels are low everywhere and most of Virginia is considered to be in a moderate drought at the moment. The good news is the extended forecast is finally starting to show some relief with rain many days each week. Some of this rainfall will come in the form of thunderstorms. So be sure to check out the radar to see where the intense rainfall is dropping as that will effect what streams and rivers might be impacted. Rain is forecast from Thursday afternoon into Sunday and then again much of next week. Hopefully as the jet stream begins to dip back down towards the mid-atlantic we will start seeing more wet weather. So our guides will be out targeting bass and carp for the next few months and spending early mornings on the spring creeks chasing trout. The trico hatches have been reliable most every day and the beetles have emerged along with juvenile green and yellow hoppers. The volume of small hoppers right now is pretty intense and could be a sign for an excellent terrestrial season ahead! There is plenty of fun fishing around the Valley right now so stop by and see us and we will help you pick the flies along with the spots to fish to be successful! NOTICE- for anglers in Northern Virginia, the Mossy Creek mobile fly shop will be at Aslin Beer Co on Saturday, July 13th at noon! Bring a friend and get a free casting clinic, tune up your cast, bring in any rod that needs a new line and test out a few lines and we can spool one up for you. Test cast new rods, check out all the latest gear, packs, bags, apparel, accessories, reels, waders, boots, and more!
