Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 9/29/2025

Nick brings us the forecast this week. A spot of rain came to visit over the weekend but only left us with .5 to 1 inch in the region over a few days. It wasn't enough water to really reset the dry spell we have been experiencing but it did get the smaller blue lines flowing for a few days and bumped up the Shenandoah allowing for us to float a bit easier this week. Trout fishing conditions will be best early this week while we have some overcast weather and a bump in water flow. Expect sunny skies and mild weather mid week into the weekend. Tricos are still hatching. Hoppers, beetles, ants, and crickets are still around. You could see some caddis popping off and some blue wing olives in the afternoon hours. Streamer fishing has been good on the overcast and rainy days. Prospecting with dry dropper rigs on the sunny days will be best making long casts. Keep an eye on the DWR site as public trout water stocking will start soon! Bass fishing should continue to be good this week. Bass are definitely starting to stack up in the deep winter holes. You will notice increasingly slim pickin's along your favorite banks and shallows over the next few weeks as the fish finalize their migration to their winter homes. Skip glides, shallow riffles, and shallow banks with minimal structure and concentrate on the deeper holes along big ledges, structure, and the tailouts. Musky were on the prowl last week in the rainy and overcast weather. We have been floating over a lot of musky small to very big and we anticipate a fun fall and early winter season ahead. Watch windy days as fishing could be tough with leaf litter as we enter peak fall foliage soon and leaves start dropping rapidly over the next 3 weeks. The shop will be transitioning to fall soon so keep an eye out for great deals on summer apparel and new cold weather apparel lining the walls! Enjoy the beautiful weather ahead this week!
