Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 9/16/2024
Andy brings us the forecast this week. Rain is possible Tuesday into Thursday with over an inch possible but with the weather models poor track record lately we are trying not to let ourselves get overly excited. That said any rain this week will help improve the quality of fishing. Our bass rivers are running low but also incredibly clear. This makes for spooky conditions and long casts are delicate casts are essential for success. A bit of color and water rise in the rivers will greatly improve these conditions. Same goes for the trout fishing. Our spring creeks are air clear and while that makes for some very fun technical dry fly fishing some increased flows and some stain to the water will give us an opportunity to fish streamers and dry dropper rigs again without spooking fish. The mountain trout are enjoying cooler water temps but need some flow in order to spread out and feed. Musky fishing has been fun lately. Water temps locally are hovering around 65 degrees well within the safe zone for fishing. Some leaves are starting to fall but aren't that much of an issue yet. Late Occtober and early November can be a tough period when all of our leaves start dropping. It is looking like water temps will be in the safe zone for musky especially with rain and overcast cooler weather in route. With this big moon period we are enjoying windows of very active fish chasing down flies all the way to the boat and engaging a few boatside in figure 8's. Check out the video for all the updates this week and keep an eye on our social channels as this weather system approaches as we will be updating rainfall totals with stream updates! Have a great week!
