Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 4/2/2024
Brian brings us the forecast this week. Weather looks a bit rough Tuesday night through Wednesday. Half to 3/4 of an inch expected Tuesday night, quarter to a half inch on Wednesday into Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday look drier but windy with highs around 50. Sunny weather returns Saturday and into early next week! Keep an eye on the USGS gauges this week as thunderstorms could potentially drop a bunch of rain causing drainages to spike while others remain fishable. The NOAA rainfall monitoring site for Virginia is another good resource for rainfall totals in the last 72 hours. Rainfall, rising water mixed with cooler temps will likely slow down the smallmouth bite for a few days on the larger local rivers. The spring creek trout fishing should be good if you can handle the wind and rain. Streamer fishing will be good in these conditions with bigger fish possible when it is raining. The dry fly fishing will likely be tough on the windy days. The mountain streams have been fishing well but will likely fish much better next week with more stable and warm weather in the forecast. Grab your rain gear the next few days and try to catch a big fish in the slop and then be prepared to fish nymphs and streamers until the creeks clean up over the weekend. If the weather holds next week everything in the area should be fishing well with refreshed flows and warm weather! Check out the video for all the details.
