Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 12/30/2021

Nick brings us the last fishing forecast of 2021! We have been experiencing some really mild and dry weather this month. It is finally looking like we could get some measurable rainfall over the weekend. It will be a wet and soggy New Year's Day but the streamer fishing could be quite good for catching your first big trout of the year. Next week is looking sunny, dry, and cold. Hopefully we get enough water to boost flows to improve the fishing until the next storm system rolls through. In the meantime we have been enjoying catching trout on the lakes, spring creeks, and Jackson tailwater. Most of our brook trout streams and smaller stocked freestone streams aren't flowing much and fishing is poor. The musky fishing can be tough in low clear conditions but it is rewarding to sight fish them when they allow. The bass fishing is typical for winter. If you know where the fish stack up you can find some decent action. Most of the bass are crowded into deep holes with dominant ledges and good sheltering structure. Look for wood mixed with boulders and rock walls and you will generally find what you are looking for. We will provide updates next Monday after the weekend rain! The shop will be CLOSED on Saturday January 1st. Have a safe and happy holiday celebration!
