Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 7/21/2025

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We are coming off months of rain and there is finally a break in the weather. Temps will be in the low to mid 80's this week and DRY for once. Water levels are dropping and rivers are slowly cleaning up. As of Monday morning many of our high elevation trout streams are fishable. North River upper above Elkhorn is very full but fishable. Skidmore Fork below Switzer is full but fishing very well. Dry River was very big on Saturday but got a pretty big shot of rain on Saturday evening but will be in great shape this week. Most of the Shenandoah National Park streams will be in great shape this week as well. Beaver Creek blew out over the weekend but will hopefully be back online in a few days. Mossy is full but running clean and clear right now. Jackson tailwater and Spring Run are options west of us if you don't want to head over into West VA. Smallmouth bass fishing has been off with high dirty water for over a week but we are hopeful the South Fork will be back on line with decent visibility by Thursday. Despite missing quite a bit of July with high water and storms just about weekly we are set up nicely to be able to fish into August on many of our favorite trout streams and bass fishing should be excellent! Cooler temps will make it enjoyable to float or to be up fishing in the mountains. We would recommend fishing the spring creeks early for the trico hatch, fishing dry dropper rigs in the afternoon hours with a big terrestrial pattern or beetle, or fishing streamers on the overcast days. Brook trout fishing has been good just about any time. Fish are eating most any attractor dry fly and nymph combo. Little yellow stones are out and beetles and ants will take fish all summer. We will be fishing big crayfish and baitfish patterns for smallmouth until water levels drop and clarity improves for topwater fishing! Enjoy this blessing of full streams and cooler weather this week and have fun out there!
