Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 3/16/2026
Brian brings us the forecast this week. Wind and rain has covered the area today and that will continue into Monday night with wind and cold weather taking us into Wednesday. The good news- we are inching our way out of the drought that started at the beginning of fall last year. Expect a quarter to half inch of rain in the area with more dropping in storms. We are expecting the weather and water conditions to stabilize later Wednesday into Thursday providing good weather and conditions by the weekend. Should start seeing Quill Gordons and caddis up in the mountain streams. Caddis are on the spring creeks as well. Dry fly reports from the mountains has been good but likely nymph fishing will likely produce better early this week as this massive front blows through. DWR has been out stocking fish - Braley pond, Cowpasture, Spring Run, South Branch Potomac, Tye, Passage DH were stocked last week. Most of our larger rivers like the Jackson, Bullpasture, South River, North River have been stocked and fishing well. Smallmouth were eating in the warm and stable weather last week. The front this week will shake things up a bit but they should be ready to eat mid-later this week. Musky reports have gotten slimmer as we believe many fish are pushing to spawn. We have had quite a few musky caught as bycatch as they tend to favor smaller meals this time of year. Keep an eye on the wind forecast this week and get ready to enjoy the water flow from this recent rainfall as soon as conditions improve! Stop in the shop as we are loaded up for spring fishing!
