The weather has normalized a bit for March in Virginia. Chilly nights in the 20's and 30's with highs in the 50's pushing 70 some days. Rain fell late Sunday night to give us a nice little bump in flow and we expect a bit more rain later this week around Friday. Water levels are going to be just about perfect for fishing this week and unless we get a storm later this coming weekend should be excellent. Mountain brook trout fishing reports have been coming in and fishing has been good and will continue to improve as water temps bump up a bit and insect activity increases. Caddis and Quill Gordons should be in everyone's boxes to match the hatch but most attractor dry flies in 10-14 will work. Nymphs in sizes 12-14 and smaller streamers in size 10 are perfect right now. DWR is out stocking all of our waters in our area. Be sure to continue to check the stocking updates for intel. Junk food style flies like worms, eggs, and mops will work on freshly stocked fish. Also crystal buggers, kreelex, rubber legged nymphs, and a variety of nymphs and streamers will work. Have plenty of split shot and indicators this time of year if you find some heavy flows or deeper pools to cover! Bass fishing has cranked up and we have been seeing some big fish in the past week. Water temps in the mid 50's is the time to hunt for those big fish coming out of their winter slumbers! Musky are about to start spawning and will be more difficult to target through April but once on the other side of spawn the bite gets great into June!
