Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 4/6/2026
Brian brings us the forecast this week. We have some pleasant weather today with 60 degree sunny weather. We expect more this week with chilly nights until Friday. Then we warm up into the 70's during the day through the weekend. Trout fishing has been good up in the mountains with improving dry fly fishing. Water levels are great right now but 'low' for this time of year as we generally have much more water in our system. Without much rain in the forecast for the 10 days ahead we would definitely suggest you get out and fish the mountains while we have good conditions. DWR is out stocking for another 2 months and nearby stockings recently include- North River DH, Jackson River Special Reg, S. Fork Moormans, upper Pedlar, Piney, Robinson, Rose, Hawksbill, Upper Passage. There are also a lot of streams over the mountain in West VA fishing well right now too. The spring creeks and Jackson Tailwater are also in good shape. We may find some days this week with picky fish with bluebird skies unless we see some bugs hatching. Smallmouth bass on the rivers are likely in migration to areas looking to spawn. This will be transition water- feeding in the current near structure adjacent to spawning areas. These fish can be pretty aggressive in this period before they head into the shallows to sweep nests. This means you need to target this type of water as concentrations of fish will be found near the best spawning areas. Smaller fish will be loaded up in the riffles and runs feeding as the water temps continue to climb. It will be a few weeks and then these bass will be in various stages of spawn into May depending on water levels and temps. Musky are still spawning and we aren't actively targeting them. We see musky spawning pretty late, sometimes into May on the Shenandoah as it typically runs cooler than our other surrounding musky rivers. Usually by mid May we are back onto them pretty regularly into June. Keep an eye on the DWR site this week for updates on local trout stockings and always watch the social channels for updates as our guides get off the water!
