Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 11/11/2024

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We enjoyed a small shot of rain Sunday into late Sunday night but it really wasn't enough to make any impacts. There is a slight chance of rain on Thursday but it also isn't looking like it will be enough to really boost water flows. Hopefully the trend will continue as storms out west progress our way. Until then we still have low water and relatively warm water temps that will begin to drop this week with the temperatures. Tuesday night we will have lows in the 20's and expect temps to be in the low 30's until the end of the week at night. We could see mid 60's and upper 60's again later in the weekend but the extended forecast is looking cooler or at least seasonal for a change. Brookies and browns are still spawning but we could see that finishing up here over the next few weeks. Mountain streams are very low and leaf litter is still a concern on the breezy days. State stocked streams are fishing fair right now. Back Creek DH is very low and clear but has been stocked, decent reports from the Jackson Special reg area continue, Spring Run was stocked again but is very very low and fish spooky and concentrated at the upper end of the property, Bullpasture, Cowpasture, South Branch of the Potomac have also been stocked. The Jackson tailwater is a good option for nymphing right now. The lakes and ponds in our region have been stocked so plan to find fish around Elkhorn, Hearthstone, Briery Branch, Hone Quarry, Sugar Hollow, and upper and lower Sherando. DWR did not stock a few days last week during the election cycle nor did they stock veterans day. They should be out again this week. The spring creeks are popular and as a result have seen a lot of traffic lately. The overcast and rainy days are by far the most productive. Musky fishing has been good and the leaf hatch manageable. Some big bass have been caught recently as well while bass fishing or as bycatch by musky anglers. The overall weather looks great for mid November so enjoy the outdoors while the weather is playing nicely! Check out the video for all the details!
