How to Tie the Spoon Minnow

Colby runs us through a super fun 'fly' we used to fish and sell from Chuck Kraft's Kreel Tackle Co based in Charlottesville. This fly will zig, zag, and dart its way through the current when stripped or wiggle and flutter its way to the bottom just like a disoriented or dying minnow. Just about any species of fish that eats minnows will crush this fly. Tied small in all black, olive, or brown it is one of the better leech patterns out there. They can be tied large enough for musky and pike as well. Our shop carries the ultrasuede tail material in a variety of color so you don't have to mark them up on your own. We tie this fly on the gamakatsu B-10s with lead wire, flat waxed nylon thread, loctite gel glue, 5 minute epoxy, 24hr epoxy, and nail polish or paint. The body is made of acylic nails or you can use easter eggs or coke bottles to cut your own. They are virtually indestructible so if you make a bunch in bulk you will have plenty for years! We hope you enjoy this tutorial!
