Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 9/27/2021
Andy brings us the fishing forecast this week. We are looking forward to mostly sunny weather with temps in the 70s during the day and nights in the 40s and 50s. Water levels are running full in the mountains, spring creeks, and larger freestone streams. The Shenandoah is running stained but fishable today. Black and blue clawdads, black or olive crittermites, and flashy streamers will be in play until the river clears up a bit. The reports from the mountains have been great. The brookies have spread out and are enjoying water temps in the mid 50s right now. There are still a few yellow stones popping. Ants and beetles are out for another few weeks until the 1st big frosts hit. Caddis in size 12-14 will also take a few fish off the surface. Subsurface has been producing more fish. Size 12-14 nymphs- hare's ear, pheasant tails, psycho prince, nitro caddis and other attractors fished euro style or under an indicator will work through this period of high water. As water levels drop and clean up drop the size of your flies. Keep an eye out of DWR to start stocking fish soon. Conditions are prime right now across VA for a good fall season. Stop in and see us or shop online to gear up!
