Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 7/24/2023
Nick brings us the forecast this week. It is mild and nice today but expect some warmer temperatures this week and into the weekend. There is a slight chance of afternoon storms Monday and Tuesday afternoon and then clear Wednesday through Friday and then a chance for storms again in the afternoon and evening hours through the weekend. The mountain brook trout streams are getting low again and will likely be marginal later this week unless a drainage gets a significant storm move through the next 2 days. Trout anglers should focus on the tailwaters and spring creeks this week. Early morning trico hatches on the spring creeks has been solid and pretty predictable. Beetles are still the most productive patterns we are using right now. Small hoppers will also work well. Restoration work on Mossy Creek should be finishing up this week and into next week. The exciting action this week will be on the warm water rivers for smallmouth. On the bright sunny and hot days focus your efforts on the big shade lines. The big smallmouth will hold tight in these areas and will usually be receptive to topwater flies like cork poppers, sneaky petes, or deer hair poppers and divers. Try a Todd's wiggle minnow, murdich minnow, murdich wiggler around the riffles and runs. Clawdads, CK baitfish, and Crittermites are always a must have for the season. Water levels will likely continue to drop and we should have perfect topwater fishing conditions ahead. Grab your favorite 6 or 7 weight rod, 1-2x leader and add a 18" of fluorocarbon tippet and get ready for the best action of the summer! Check out the video for all the details!
