Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 5/20/2024

Brian brings us the forecast this week. The area received quite a bit of rain Friday night into Saturday morning. 2-3 inches of rain fell across the region. Many of the mountain streams are running clear but high and most will have good fishable water Tuesday and Wednesday. Some of the larger trout streams will be high for another couple of days. The spring creeks are dropping and clearing and should be fishing well right now for the streamer anglers and dry fly fishing should turn back on once the visibility gets back to 3 or more feet. The South Fork is running high and dirty but dropping now. Hopefully we will be able to get out bass fishing by mid-later this week. Keep an eye on the forecast as more rain is headed our way Thursday night and on through the holiday weekend. Temps will be comfortable with lows in the upper 50's low 60's and highs in the upper 70's. Little yellow stones are all over the mountain streams and green drakes are on the way! We have already seen some big drakes on the spring creeks in the evening hours. Most of the smallmouth have completed spawn. You might see a few smaller bass guarding nests, a couple big largemouth might still be guarding nests, and sunfish are sweeping out nests and will spawn later this week into next week. Take advantage of this higher water and enjoy some excellent trout fishing while our streams stay full and flowing strong!
