Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 4/10/2023

Nick brings us the forecast this week. We have some incredible weather this week with highs in the 70's and 80's most days. Low's are in the upper 40's to upper 50's. Water temps will be on the rise everywhere. Brook trout streams are getting low which is uncommon for this time of year but we keep missing big rain events as they continue to go west or north of us. The 10 day is not showing much relief from this dry spell. You will want to focus on the larger mountain streams with the deepest pools and runs for the best fishing. The dry fly fishing has been great most days. Cold fronts have killed the fun on the frontal days but overall its been a fun season up in the mountains so far. The spring creeks are seeing some good dry fly action with caddis and now some larger mayflies starting to hatch. DWR stocked streams like the Jackson, Back Creek, Bullpasture, Spring Run, South River, and North River should fish well this week. Note that most of these streams are running very clear and below average flow. You may need to take a technical approach minding your casting, mending, and overall presentation to keep from spooking fish. Enjoy the trout fishing while we have some streamflow right now! The bass fishing will crank up later this week as water temps warm up dramatically. We should see fish starting to move near spawning areas by the 15th or 20th to begin sweeping spots. We anticipate water conditions to remain very clear until we get our next shot of rain. If this is the case we will be out and should be able to alert folks as to when the smallmouth spawn begins. We have seen a few musky with some scars lately which is indicative of spawning activity. We have reloaded on thousands of flies recently and we have a ton of new patterns in route this week. Now is an excellent time to reload those fly boxes. Some big fly tying refills are also in route along with a reload on popular items for our big 20th Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 15th. We have some opportunities to win high end rods, sunglasses, boots, and more that will be part of our event. All of our manufacturer reps will be in attendance and Blane Chocklett will be here tying flies. We will have a backyard style cookout with burgers, dogs, side, drinks, and 3 Notched will be bringing back I'd Rather Beer Fishing for the event! Bring your friends and family and come see us!
