Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 3/13/2023
The first day of spring is about a week away so of course it snowed yesterday and there is snow up on the mountains right now. Be prepared for cold and very windy weather until Thursday. The end of the week looks nice and warm. Fishing will be a challenge on these windy days with gusts over 40mph. Keep an eye on the wind, weather, and USGS gauges this week while we have some volatile weather. Brook trout fishing slowed down a bit over the past week as water temps dropped off significantly. Quill gordons and caddis will be the dominant bugs once waters warm up again. Have plenty of copper johns, psycho prince, bloody mary's, and other attractor nymphs handy while water temps say cool. Dry fly fishing up in the mountain will peak April into June. The spring creeks have been experiencing some decent caddis hatches. We will see our first big mayfly hatches in about 3-4 weeks. Until then be prepared with sculpin and crayfish patterns and your favorite buggy nymphs! Bass fishing will continue to improve now into April as water temps rise. Bass will begin to move into their pre-spawn positions once water temps stabilize in the upper 50's pushing 60. Until then we are still finding them hanging around their deep winter haunts. Water temps have dropped in the past week and the moon has been big. Musky anglers have been moving some nice fish. We have caught a few musky while bass fishing. Get your gear prepped for spring over the next few windy days and then get ready to fish later this week with temps in the upper 60's!! Sunset is now after 6:30pm so we will be enjoying some fishing in the evenings now!
