Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 12/8/2025
Brian brings us the forecast this week. Schools closed in the area Monday for snow and we are expecting 1-4 inches with very cold temps Monday night. Our only warm day is looking like Wednesday with temps approaching 50. After that we have more very cold weather and next week looks like highs below the freezing mark a few days! It is a great time to inventory your gear(may be add what you are missing or you need to that holiday shopping list)or tie up some flies by the fire. Very little has been stocked in our area but the Cowpasture and Spring run got a load of fish end of last week. The spring creeks are warm enough to fish and overcast days we are seeing blue wing olives in the afternoons and good streamer fishing. We have put a few musky in the boat and saw some action and found some monster sized fish over the weekend. Watch for ice and snow on the boat ramps for the next few days as we will have some slippery conditions until we get some melt on Wednesday. It is the time of year to remember that snow melt will dramatically drop water temps. Even strong spring creeks like Mossy will see a temp drop as snow melts into it also causing some decrease in visibility. So the warm days may seem like a great idea to get out and fish but activity may slow down until water temps bump back up. While the holiday season is busy and there are a lot of parties going on we are having our annual Lil' Smokin' Hot Holiday party at the shop this Wednesday from 6-8pm. Get some hand rolled lil smokies, hot mulled cider, adult beverages, and share in some holiday cheer and some great deals! Stay warm and keep praying for snow and rain this winter!!
