Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 12/6/22

Brian brings us the fishing forecast for the week ahead. The good news is we have more rain in the forecast. The temperatures will be in the upper 50's mid week and mild most of the week into the weekend. The overcast and rainy conditions should be excellent for our trout and musky fishing. BWO's are hatching in the afternoons and are most thick on the overcast and rainy days. We highly recommend getting your streamer gear out to take advantage of the excellent streamer weather but have your dry fly gear ready in the event a big hatch comes off and brings fish to the surface. You will see the best BWO activity on the spring creeks like Mossy, Beaver, Smith, Buffalo, Spring Run, upper South. Attractor streamers like the kreelex, rubber legged crystal buggers, sculpin snack, bunny muddlers, rascals, and near nuff sculpins work great on these overcast days. Try a size 6 black or olive rubber legged crystal bugger stripped or even fished with a dead-drift under an indicator in the slow deep runs. If water conditions remain very clear don't rule out your zebra midges, darth beatis, and smaller nymphs as they tend to dominate in the winter months. The musky fishing has been quite good lately and we anticipate the overcast and rainy conditions mixed with the big moon period we are in right now will really spike the action. The first part of December is generally a great time to fish for these large predators. If you are looking for bass try to find the big pieces of woody structure around the deep slow moving pools and you might find a big largemouth or smallmouth! We are also having a fun in-store sale event this coming Thursday from 6-8pm. There will be food and drinks and great in-store sales! Stop by and see us!
