Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 12/29/2025
Nick brings us the last fishing forecast of 2025! What a year it has been with wild weather and a roller coaster of fishing conditions. We started off cold and snowy and received enough rain for a good spring season. Water levels started to disappear early summer and then the rains came! Over 40 inches of rain fell in June and July to help reset our drought situation only to be followed by months of dry weather to end summer and through the entire fall season. Through the ups and downs we still had some good fishing this year and we are currently left with a little bit of water to kick off 2026. Most of our mountain streams are still flowing giving the brook trout some space to move around and feed. The spring creeks are in good shape and the larger freestones have some decent water for the DWR to continue to stock for the next week or so. The 10 day forecast is not showing much in the way of rainfall. Mix that with windy and cold weather and it looks like we will start the new year with some tough conditions. We will be looking at the extended forecast for the next warm front along with some rain! Fishing was good over the weekend. It was nice to get out an enjoy some peace out in mother nature and tug on some big fish. Nick caught one of his biggest trout of the year with a 24" brown on Mossy Creek. Colby and Bob caught some big largemouth and smallmouth on the Shenandoah River. Andy and his crew put a big musky in the net. It was a great window of 50 degree and calm weather. We will be looking forward to the next warm spell to get out and do a bit more of that! Until then, stay warm and tie up a few flies! We look forward to seeing you all in 2026!!!
