Mossy Creek Fly Fishing 9/28/2026

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We hope you enjoyed the taste of fall weather last week and over the weekend. We are warming up again this week and will see temps in the 80's by Wednesday and then we level off with highs around 70 for the weekend with some possible rain over the weekend. While we didn't get the rain we would have liked last week we do have some fishable water. Dry River and Skidmore are low but there are some good fishable runs right now. The East side of the Blue Ridge will have a little better conditions than the western slope streams or some of the drainages to our west. Get out and fish for brookies before the spawn starts next month. The spring creeks will see tricos in the morning hours with a spinner fall a little later in the morning- 8:30-9:30 timeframe. Hoppers, crickets, beetles, and ants are still on the menu. Try a dropper on the bright and sunny days or fish a sculpin, crayfish, or jig streamer along the bottom. Overcast and rainy days will be great for streamer fishing. DWR will be out stocking next week, so keep an eye out for some local waters to get stocked. With low water levels plan on the lakes being stocked heavy to start. The bass fishing will continue to be good later this week once the weather stabilizes. Water levels are very low and fish will be spooky but we anticipate a good bite before this next front pushes through. Check Thursday or Friday for the best action before the next front moves in. Water temps dropped over the weekend but will warm up slightly this week. We anticipate musky fishing will crank up here by the weekend. The leaf hatch has already started so breezy days could become a challenge. Carp will be on the feed so take advantage of those opportunities while we have good water temps to keep them up in the shallows!
