Mossy Creek Fly Fishing 9/14/2026
Nick brings us the forecast this week and wish we had better news on the weather and water levels. Unfortunately most of the rain towards the end of last week and weekend missed us. You will find some refreshed streams on the east side of the Blue Ridge though as some drainages are just cresting today. Expect cool weather today and Tuesday on the backside of the latest front with temps hitting near the 90's again to finish off the week and weekend. Another front is pushing through this weekend and it is looking like a pretty significant weather reset with highs around 70 and lows in the low 50's for next week making for some perfect end of summer weather. Water levels are low up in the mountains around us so we are holding off any brook trout fishing right now West of 81. The spring creeks are low and clear but running cold. We still saw good numbers of Hex out today along with a massive trico hatch on Mossy Creek. The high pressure slowed down the dry fly fishing a bit but it will perk up later this week especially before the next front on Friday. The bass fishing has been hit or miss with this low water. Bass have also been gorging on hex bugs in the evenings and through the night making some morning fishing slower than normal. We expect fishing to pick up later this week as the next front moves in and hopefully the overcast and rainy weather Friday into Sunday will boost activity. Still plenty of topwater action ahead with warm weather this week. Downsize your crayfish and hellgrammite flies to trigger a strike from weary fish. Load heavy on changer flies as the fish begin to gorge on minnows in the early stages of fall. https://mossycreekflyfishing.com/search?q=changers We have a ton of game changers on sale at excellent prices right now so load heavy while they are available. Carp fishing continues to be good and the musky fishing will be on hold until water temps drop a bit. We are expecting temps to drop pretty significantly by next week!
