Mossy Creek Fly Fishing 10/14/2024

Brian brings us the forecast this week and has a lot to cover. We have had big water level changes recently and now have some pretty big temperature changes. As this cold front passes we will have some windy conditions early in the week and then cooler weather with a few evenings with temps in the 20's at night with highs only in the 50's. Reports have been scattered in the mountains the last 2 days with cold front and windy conditions creating some challenging fishing. We have some great brook trout anglers that are on the water regularly that will report any sign of spawning activity. For now there have been no reports of spawning fish in the Park to the Forest. Load heavy on nymphs, indicators, and split shot right now for the best action. Cold weather and this pressure change will likely result in slow deep presentations working best. DWR is still out stocking this week. We are hoping a few more DH streams and a few of our local lakes will be stocked. Again, big attractor nymphs and small to moderate sized streamers should be in your box for the coming season. The spring creeks are full and reports have been good. Susie Q is open for the month and Beaver Creek will get a stocking of fish soon, and Mossy has produced some quality fish lately, and Spring Run has been stocked. Tricos are still hanging around but hatches are starting to get thin. Hoppers, ants, and beetles will take a hit this week with our first few big frosty nights. That said fish don't know hoppers will die off, they will just start seeing fewer of them and their feeding habits will focus more on baitfish, crayfish, and other macro-invertebrates. Blue Wing olives may be available on the calmer afternoons but we will likely see that hatch get thicker later in the year. Smallmouth fishing will be tough in the wind and on the backside of this coldfront. With temps looking to hit the 70's again by the end of the weekend we anticipate seeing some big fish caught. Musky fishing will crank up as well. Water temps, clarity, and levels are looking prime right now!! Check out the video for all the details!!
