Virginia Fly Fishing Forecast 8/4/2023
Andy brings us the forecast today. Right now it is warm and sunny out but we expect some severe storms this afternoon into the evening. It will be breezy on the backside of this front Tuesday and much nicer on Wednesday. Temps will cool off again Tuesday-Thursday then warm up again over the weekend. You will likely see wet weather again on Thursday and then afternoon showers Saturday and Sunday. The bass fishing has been good and should be solid this week. It will be breezy when this front passes Tuesday that might make things a bit more challenging. Overall we should be in good shape this week for our bass fishing. Might get a small bump in water flow as well. August and September are our favorite months for big fish on topwater. Load up on cork bugs, wiggle minnows, soft chews, and deer hair poppers and frogs! The mountain trout fishing has been marginal at best with the low water flows but storms this week could refresh flows. Keep your eye on the local radars and USGS sites for streamflow updates. Little yellow stones, ants, and small beetles are catching brookies right now. Tricos continue to hatch on the spring creeks and the first hex of the year have arrived in the evening hours. Our grasshoppers are mostly green and tan and maturing. Fish will start reacting more positively to big foam hoppers and PMX patterns this month and next. Try a small pink bead pheasant tail as a dropper! Overcast and rainy days could make for some good streamer fishing! Check out the video for all the details and have a great week!
