Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 5/11/2026

Brian brings us the forecast this week. We enjoyed a small shot of rain Sunday night into Monday morning with just around an inch falling which was much more than expected. Not nearly what we will need to dig us out of this drought but we will take all we can get. It looks like more is on the way Wednesday and Wednesday night. On the backside of this front we will be looking at warm weather again with temps in the 80's by the weekend. Hopefully the rain mid week will freshen up the streams with better water flow. Reports from the mountains have still been good. The dry fly fishing has been good in the Shenandoah National Park and in the GW Forest and water temps still favorable despite being low. DWR has been out stocking and hit Elkhorn with a double sized stocking last week along with North River upper and North River gorge. The bullpasture, Jackson, Hughes, Rose, and Dry River were stocked. 3 more weeks of stocking left! The bass rivers are very low but the topwater fishing has been excellent most days when the weather has been stable. Carp and musky have been active lately as well. The largemouth are starting to spawn right now and will likely be on beds this week when water temps spike again. So despite the low water fishing has been really good and this weekend is looking great. If you are around northern VA this coming Sunday we are visiting Aslin Brewing at their Herndon Taphouse and bringing the mobile fly shop! Come by and test cast some rods or fly lines, try on some waders and boots, check out all the new gear for 2026 or take advantage of some great sale specials. We will be on site from 12-5 and giving free casting lessons and tune-ups the entire time.
