Mossy Creek Fly Fishing Forecast 5/8/2023
Brian brings us the forecast this week. We have nothing but good news as our water flows and weather look perfect for the next 10 days. We might have an afternoon shower or thunderstorm but nothing that looks like it will wash us out. Insects are popping in the mountains and the brook trout are eating dry flies like crazy. Tricos and sulphurs continue to get thicker on the spring creeks and the fish have tuned into them. Drakes will be arriving in about 3 weeks! Any overcast or rainy days should provide some excellent streamer fishing if there are no bugs hatching. You can fish just about however you'd like right now. Dry flies, dry dropper rigs, euro rigs, indicator fishing with nymphs, or streamer fishing are all producing fish! When water temps and flows are this good you can catch fish on just about anything! Keep an eye on the DWR site for fish stockings as we only have into mid June before our delayed harvest waters open up for harvest. We noticed bass sweeping nests again on Friday and Saturday. Many of the largemouth have yet to spawn and we found a number of new smallmouth nesting sites. We should see most of the spawning activity occur this week with the warm water temps! Carp are also fairly active and musky are back on the program as well. Take advantage of the great conditions while they last as this is looking to be the better window of perfect conditions of the year so far!
