What Gear Is Used?

All fly fishing gear is included in our classes. Rods, reels, line, leaders, tippet, flies, waders and boots will be provided. We recommend all anglers to bring a hat and sunglasses with them.

What's the Best Season?

Virginia’s favorite fly fishing school is open 7 days a week year round. We only close for holidays and extreme weather. Our busiest and most popular season coincides with the prime trout fishing season, March-June, however summer, fall, and winter months are also popular if the weather permits.

What Should I Bring?

Clothing
In the spring and fall, temperatures typically range from the 40’s in the morning up to the 70’s by mid-day, dropping down to the 50’s in the evening.

Summers on the river can get hot, humid and sunscreen is your friend. A light, quick-drying shirt (long-sleeved is good) and a good hat can increase your enjoyment of the day. A light rain jacket is recommended since intermittent rain can occur.

Footwear
An old pair of sneakers is fine as we will mostly be on grass for the class. Waders and boots will be used for wading in the streams.

Eyewear
Eye protection is very important. Polarized sunglasses will help you cut the glare on the water and see fish and obstacles.

Rods, reels, flies, tackle
Our instructors want to ensure the greatest opportunity for success but we understand if you want to use your own gear. We recommend 5-6 weight rods for our fly fishing schools. We will provide our students with the BEST gear available in the industry.
