Stoney Creek at Wintergreen Resort

Stoney Creek

Stoney Creek is an incredible freestone mountain stream on Wintergreen's Resorts property in Nelson County. There is a 3 mile fishable stretch managed by the Wintergreen Property Owners Association and our fly shop. There is a great population of wild brook trout and the stream is stocked 2 times a year with larger brook trout. Wild fish range from 6-10 inches with a few trophy 11-12 inch fish available. The stocked fish range from 12-15 inches with a few larger fish mixed in various stockings. Fishing is excellent year round as long as water levels are sustained. Fish in the winter will readily take nymphs and streamers. Incredible hatches of Quill Gordons, Cahills, Sulphurs, and Stoneflies will keep dry fly anglers busy from March through the summer months! There are few streams that can produce the brook trout action you can find on Stoney Creek. Fishing is designated for Wintergreen Property Owners, guests, and anglers booking half or full day guided trips through the Resort. The public may fish this stream by purchasing a permit at the WPOA office located in the administrative building at the gate house entrance to the Resort. Mossy Creek Fly Fishing provides all guide services for Wintergreen Resort and on Stoney Creek. Anglers can contact the fly shop for information and fishing conditions or to book a day on this incredible fishery.
