You are cordially invited to attend the FALL 2015 Mossy Creek Open House, Saturday November 14th from 9AM-5PM.
This party gets bigger and better each year and we can always ensure a great time! This fall we have George Daniel coming to host our event.
For those that don’t know George, he began fly fishing at the age of 6 in Potter County, PA, a remote region filled with wilderness and beautiful brook trout. By age 14, George’s family relocated to PA’s limestone region, which contained the state’s best trout fisheries. By the age of 17, George was travelling throughout the state, seeking lessons from expert anglers. By age 21, George had learned from the best anglers in the NE, including his mentor Joe Humphreys. Out of curiosity and with the support of his wife, George began entering local and national fly-fishing competitions.
He earned a spot on Fly Fishing Team USA and remained on the team for 7 seasons. Also during that time, George was on the US Youth Fly Fishing Team’s coaching staff, including two years as head coach. George’s real motivation to compete was to travel the world and learn from world-renowned anglers to develop a global approach.
In that brief period, George had success by winning back-to-back US National Championships and placing in the top 5 in the 2006 World Fly Fishing Championships. Eventually, competitive fly-fishing took its toll, so George retired at age 32 to spend more time travelling with his family and to focus on fly fishing education.
George is a former manager of the TCO State College Fly Shop and now works exclusively with TCO Fly Shop with Livin On The Fly LLC. George currently assists with the US Youth Fly Fishing Team as well as writing and conducting fly fishing clinics/presentations across the country. His first book, Dynamic Nymphing has become a best seller. George has now finished his second book project, Strip-Set, released September, 2015 all about streamers and streamer fishing. George lives along the banks of his favorite trout stream with his wife, Amidea and their two children.
We will have a detailed breakdown of the day available very soon. Some of the areas best guides and fly tyer’s will be demonstrating their favorite patterns all day, giving casting instruction, seminars, and presentations. We will have food, drinks, and our popular raffle as well. George Daniel’s presentation will focus on tying and fishing streamers. A description of his presentation is below:
Strip Set Presentation – Streamer fishing isn’t just about casting a wooly bugger down and across stream and stripping as fast as you can. The emphasis of this presentation is to demonstrate the wide range of streamer tactics available to the angler. From sinking line strategies on large tailwaters to floating line tactics on central PA streams, the key is to understand the environment one fishes and then find the tool/approach that best match the conditions. Topics discussed will include equipment, rigging, reading the water, weighted vs. un-weighted patterns, sinking line vs. floating line, casting, retrieves, and pattern designs. The information discussed in this program will help you develop an all around viewpoint on streamer tactics, and customize a streamer program for your home waters.
Fly Tying Demonstration – George will demonstrate how to tie several of his favorite streamer patterns including the Sparkle Minnow, Sculp Snack, Michigan Fry, along with several others.
Book Signing – George will be on hand all day to sign copies of his new book, “Strip Set”
Tell your friends and bring your family or your neighbor for a day of fun and information. This event is FREE to everyone! Arrive early for the best seats for the presentations!
